The new year is finally here! While some of you are trying to stick to resolutions, I am starting a new book! Does anyone else set a goal in the New Year to become a more active reader? If you did here are twenty-one books to read in 2021! As an avid reader, I am always looking for a new read. Thriller, mysteries, romance, sci-fi, I love them all! If you’re interested in reading more this year pick one of these suggestions and enjoy!

My current read: Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Little Women is one of those classic books that I think comes in waves with popularity. Shockingly, I’ve never read the book before but have probably seen the movie adaptions over one hundred times. What I like most about this book are the themes of love and family. It’s a great story that showcases the love of siblings and how no matter the situation family is forever. Plus, I’ve always been a sucker for a Joe & Laurie moment!

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

This book has been out for a while now but it was the first book that introduced me to the thriller genre and I have a special place in my heart for it. Whenever I read another thriller, I always go back to this book and compare the two. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you guessing on every page. Great twists and character development.

Cherry by Nico Walker

This crime fiction war story follows an army medic who returns from war and picks up some interesting habits.

Supermarket by Logic

This book was such an interesting surprise. It follows a grocery store employee whose boring life takes a turn when he accidentally comes across a crime scene.

Beautiful Boy by David Sheff

I recently watched the film adaption of this book and was blown away. The book is even more honest and heart-wrenching. Such a fantastic read and would highly recommend it!

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? By Mindy Kaling

Mindy Kaling can do no wrong and this book proves it! This book is ten years old now, but it’s one I often go back to because I love it! It is funny, insightful, and has a lot of heart. Go read it!

Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid

I love Kiley Reid’s writing style. She has an excellent way of describing the story so perfectly that it feels like she’s telling you it over a cup of coffee. This book gave me a mix of emotions and was very fitting after the year we had.

One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus

Anyone else love teen drama now that they are no longer a teenager? This young adult suspense novel follows a mysterious death that takes place in detention. This book uses multi-perspectives to show the point of view of all the students and it's your job to figure out who is lying.

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

No spoilers for this one! All I’ll say is read it now!

I’m Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid

Who knew meeting the parents would be this creepy.

The Beautiful and Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Yes, The Great Gatsby is Fitzgerald’s most popular story, but this book is just as desirable. Enjoy this must-read that portrays high society elites during the 1920s.

Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut

Another Sci-fi classic!

Verity by Colleen Hoover

You can’t go wrong with a Colleen Hoover book, but this one is my favorite! Bone-chilling with a twist on every page.

A Promised Land by Barack Obama

Did you get very into politics this year? If so, this is a great read by one of the greats!

Daisy Jones and The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

If you’ve loved the film Almost Famous you will love this! This story follows a talented teenager who forms a band in the 1970s.

When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole

An intense and psychological read like nothing I’ve ever read before. Friendly tip, keep a nightlight on after finishing this book!

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

Did you ever have a book that you connected with so deeply? This book is that for me. A classic with plenty of angst.

A Stranger in the House by Shari Lapena

This book kept me guessing till the very end. Usually, I can figure out the plot pretty quickly, but this one had me stumped. Interesting characters that are full of secrets!

Recursion by Blake Crouch

End of the world, time travel, and a love story. What more could you want! This is one of those books that I didn’t want it to end. The way Blake Crouch writes is mesmerizing and will keep you intrigued until the very last page.

The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley

All I have to say about this one is DRAMA! This book is so enticing and the characters are so scandalous. What could go wrong when a group of college friends spends New Year’s Eve on a deserted hunting lodge? Hint: LOTS!

The Guest List by Lucy Foley

Lucy Foley is quickly becoming my favorite writer! She writes with such imagery that makes you feel like you are right in the middle of the story watching the mystery unfold. This thriller focuses on a fancy wedding off the coast of Ireland and some guests are not who they seem.

I hope these suggestions find you joy! Happy reading!
